Urgency is a tool, and it is being used on you.
Real promotions have deadlines, often a week or thirty days to return an affidavit, and they are written into the Official Rules, where you can go and read them.
What real promotions do not do is invent a deadline in the notification itself that gives you less time than it would take to check. Urgency in a prize notification exists for exactly one purpose: to stop you looking things up, asking somebody, or sleeping on it.
Treat a countdown as a reason to slow down. If the prize is real, an hour spent checking will not lose it.
